PROTOEVANGELION - is the combination of two Greek words which simply mean "first", "Gospel" which is the First good news or gospel preached in the entire Bible before Gospel Accounts.
Genesis 3:15 - And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel. (this verse in the bible is called as the Protoevangelion also the promise of the seed.)
YES! because of the fall of Adam and Eve - God had given the promise of the seed. And now the question comes
Q) what happens to the Seed?
we must understand the verse as ....
And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your
offspring-(Seed) and hers; he will crush-(Strike) your head, and you will strike his
heel.
- Now. this the Crux to understand the whole Bible.
- so, in order for the perfect (Peace & Harmony; that is Shalom) to be restored once again - a righteous offspring/seed is what we should look for but fortunately.
- Cain the son of Adam & Eve Kills his righteous brother Abel and the seed of Abel is no more, and Cain becomes wanderer on the face of the earth. And now again the question comes again what happens to the promised seed?
- Abel but he is dead now but he is replaced by Seth (Godly generation - 4:25-26 )and that’s why in the Bible the genealogy of Adam and Eve starts with Seth and then Enoch walks in obedience with God (5:22-24).
- we know Adam and Eve gave birth to Seth but the problem is in Genesis Chapter 6,
-
Now Chapter Six is not the Sunday school story that we heard as the story of floods but this the story of “salvation”.Noah and his wife along with his three sons and their wives- only Eight people survives and we should ask.
- What happens to the seed?
- Moreover, when we come to chapter 11 of Genesis - we see the Tower of Babel and the Lord confuses their languages and scatters them on the face of the earth
-
” to keep His promise of “be fruitful and multiply” in Gen 1&2 and again making covenants with many people like Abraham in Gen 12 and Moses in Ex 3.and we ask the question.
- what happens to the seed? another question- Did God failed? the answer is No the people failed to be faithful but God was working for mankind salvation. And that’s how God calls and makes a covenant with Abraham to be blessed numerously and be a blessing to many nations (people groups) many in the sense “all” and from here, Again God’s plan of salvation is continued throughout the Bible.
- For this very reason God choose the people of Israel as medium/path or channel; an insignificant nation to a means of God’s work but God is not showing favoritism here (Due 7:7) and the Temple and Tabernacle = complete shalom. And God was faithful to them whenever they obeyed God He blessed their land (milk & honey) and cursed whenever they turned against and disobeyed Him.However, the Covenant offers grace and forgives of sins, a path to bring life to gentiles that’s how the prophets addressed and the evangelists and NT people of God mentions about the plan of God; seed of God in Lk 4:18, Gal 4:4 and says this is the fulfillment of the promise of God; the promised messiah in King David’s line.We can read the bible back and forth today by God’s grace we can observe this line and thread of God’s salvation as promised (seed) how He protected and brought and now continuing His plan - man put God to work for our salvation because of sin.Adam – Abel – Seth – Noah – Shem – Abraham – Isaac – Jacob – Judah – David – Jesus. Therefore, we see that the separation of God’s presence and fellowship because of the conflict raised of human had corrupted the Shalom (perfect peace and harmony) is being restored by God’s initiative whenever they are moving east away from God- He is taking a step and coming close towards man. And we can see that good example in Gen 11 that people say “come let us build a tower for ourselves” and in rhetoric, to it, God says “come let us go down and confuse their language” to keep His promise of “be fruitful and multiply” in Gen 1&2 and again making covenants with many people like Abraham in Gen 12 and Moses in Ex 3.Finally, His presence is been restored by Temple & Tabernacle where God comes and talks to them and accepts their prayers, intercessions, sacrifices and sees as pleasing aroma Lev 1 and after many years again when people turned against God and followed Pagan gods and practices He handed them over to other kingdoms as slaves (Babylon and Assyria) Temple is destroyed and the glory of the temple is gone- but He gave hope to them and call to return back from their ways and brought them out Jer 29:11. God used Ezra and Nehemiah to repair and rebuild after the intertestamental period it’s not God’s presence but God (Jesus Christ) was born (present) on the earth in the midst of people. Jhn 1:1, 14 and moved, transformed, changed, healed, proclaimed the Good news to all and declared that He is the promised Messiah/Seed that everyone is waiting for Lk 4:16-21.Whenever any baby is born, Godly people anticipated that this is the child-seed but when they saw and came to know the child was born to a married couple not to virgin they were upset and keep on anticipating where is the child, when is He coming; but some claimed themselves as the Messiah during intertestamental period & few believed while others did not but finally when the promised seed Jesus (Messiah) came they failed to accept Him.many times we failed in many areas of life but God did not done with us but kept on working on us from then to now and giving new chances and opportunities you know why just because of His costly Grace given us freely !
